On Friday 17th October the Knox community came together for the first Vinnies Knox Community Sleepout.
Rowville Community Kitchen partnered with St. Vinnies and Cr Nicole Seymour to highlight the plight of our homeless people by organising a sleepout at Exner Reserve, Scoresby.
We wanted to raise the awareness of the spike in numbers of homeless families right on our own doorstep.
Homelessness seriously impacts on the children’s education, health and wellbeing.
Around 50 people from all walks of life joined us on the cold night to raise funds. Donations are still coming in.
We were delighted that Kim Wells PM joined us to listen to heart breaking stories and share a bowl of soup and piece of fruit for dinner.
As the sun rose we opened up the kitchen to serve a hot breakfast of bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs.
We are in the planning stages for next year’s fundraising event so contact us if you wish to participate.
